A Handmade Life
Growing up, my parents worked in the Textile Manufacturing Industry. My Mother, the seamstress, sometimes worked in the factories along my daddy's side when they needed help. However, she always worked at home making extra money on alterations and custom orders. For a short time during the 80's she made beautiful gowns for small local fashion shows. My sisters and I were always excited seeing her new creations, she sometimes modeled and/or had us model. My Father had different jobs working on cars when we were all very young and he always had more than one, but he once found his real love was working as a Commercial Sewing Machine Technician in the factories-that is all he did. He would often say, "The plus side was I got to spend the whole day with Mama." And he always provided very well for us! He also always found time for my mother if she needed any help with her home-based business. I have such fond memories of them at the sewing machine working together to fix any problems she may have had. They both truly loved to sew! I was taught anything handcrafted needed to be able to stand the test of time in order to be passed on-leaving the legacy of love. As I stand behind my products, I must make and treat them as the true treasures that they are. One could say, my love for sewing was embedded in my heart from the beginning and handmade is in my blood!
