Happy Thursday! It's good to finally have been able to complete a pattern that I am really happy about. This week, I have chosen a cute little handbag that is perfect. I am looking forward to adding the lining so I can list it on my Etsy shop in the future!
This pattern can be found in The Workbasket and Home Arts Magazine, Number 1, Volume 33, October 1967. You can download Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.
I used 2 Skeins of Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn which is pretty durable. The pattern calls for a G sized Hook, which I did use and the yarn calls for it as well. Yay!
In these series of photos, you can see how we begin. Once the Flap is complete, I added an embellishment of simply, chaining 4 (to begin), skip 1, ch 3, sk 1, ch 3 all around for 3 Rows. The last row, I *dc 3 double crochets in the chain 3 space, slip stitching in the sc between the ch 3 spaces. *repeat the Round to complete the new flap.
The Handles are a little tricky and require some patience. Once the strips were completed, I turned them inside out. I decided to crochet little flaps to sew on the inside of the purse. I did this by;
Joining my yarn at the tips of the handles, ch 1, single crochet across creating 4 stitches. Ch 1, sc in the 4 single crochets until I have 3 Rows, always ch 1 at the end of each row. On Row 4, 2 sc in first stitch, sc in next 2, 2 sc in last stitch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5-6, sc across. 6 stitches.
If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen all the attempts I have made in completing this little purse. Goodness! I almost gave up! But things I am still learning are:
1) SLOW DOWN.
2) ALWAYS STICK TO THE PATTERN.
3) PUT IT DOWN WHEN YOU'RE AGGRAVATED.
It sounds so easy!! Needless to say, I am very pleased with the way this one turned out, even if it took me 3 times. I hope y'all enjoy this one!
Until next time, Happy Crocheting!
