Happy Sunday to all! Well it's true, it's the middle of August and we are all longing for Autumn as it slowly wants to creep in... It's still over a hundred degrees outside, but we're hopeful as we wait. Because we all know what cooler weather means... crochet, knit, yarn and more yarn! If you have been following me on Instagram, you know that I am still in the pursuit of learning to knit, as in trying to get past the beginner stage. I have to tell you, it has taken a few years to get where I am today. I am so happy now when picking up a beginner pattern book because I understand what I am reading. I just want to tell everyone around me! Naturally, my children my biggest supporters so when my son asked me "can you knit me up a beanie? just a regular old beanie, no slouch, you know.. just fitted." Without hesitation, I replied "yes, of course!" I knew exactly what that meant... circular needles, double pointed needles, and a whole lot of patience. I am comfortable with the circulars fine, but I knew those dpns would drive me to point of frustration to where I would want to give up. For so long, I have watched videos and studied books. All I could do was picture myself sitting there feeling awkward and strange almost like Edward Scissorhands. To be honest, I was nervous. It sounds so silly, but there I was. Until my son came into my sewing room, picked out the yarn he liked and asked me if I had a pattern he could see. I showed him one from The Little Grey Heart (which is perfectly written for a beginner like myself-thank you!), which I did start but once I finished it-he really didn't care for the ribbed edge-which worked out well for me since I had made so many mistakes in it that I just chunked it. So I decided to make one w/o the ribbed edge because I knew there was a Slouchy Hat Pattern out there similar to what he wanted and I could use it as a guide. So I did! ☺
If you follow my IG, you can see that I did have some issues with a stitch or two. However, I didn't actually drop any stitches so that was a huge victory for me. Yay! Once I was able to transfer over to the dpns from the circular, I did struggle getting the top of the beanie closed, which you can kind of see in the Instagram photos. It's not a complete mess up top, but it's okay for now until I can make him a better one. He loves it! Since he is quite taller than me, I can't even see my mistakes if he decides to wear it early, too. heehee. I think he sure looks very handsome in it. ❤ϟ
Now that I finished this beanie, it's onto the next project! What ever shall that be? I do not know. Let us just wait and see. Until then, thanks for reading!☺
